Abstract:
Views of Arida presented in an interview: Syrian merchants seem to devote all their time to trade and then talk about it, with no interest in other cultural issues; women's rights are trampled, while equality of sexes is needed; mixing with Americans is advocated and is useful if the families have good morals; Arabs marrying Americans is okay if they follow male/female equality; good qualities to borrow from Americans are listed; Arabs are urged to read more; subscribe to newspapers and buy books; the wealthy Arabs are urged to contribute to charity and to literary projects.
