Abstract

Argues that Syrian/Arab immigration to the U.S. was caused by economic backwardness, which was the result of Ottoman tyranny. In the U.S., Arabs realized the great value of freedom, which they then preached, through newly-established newspapers, to their people in the U.S. and back home.
