Abstract:
One of the earliest attempts to provide a sketch of "Syrian" emigration and its causes, as well as the size, composition and location of the various Arabic-speaking communities in the U.S. Though there is a near-obsession with religion and religious strife/oppression in the Ottoman Empire, the text provides much useful information about "Syrians" in the U.S., broken down by specific regions. Also, many names of prominent "Syrian-Americans" are recorded, with a sketch of their business activity. Pictures.
