Hermann Brunn started his career working at his father’s company, Brunn and Company, designing and building custom bodies. After the company liquidated in 1941, Brunn moved to Ford Motor Company working on color and trim first in the Ford design studio and then Lincoln-Mercury. In the mid-1950s he was named Manager of Trim and Color Development Material. He continued to work at Ford in interiors until he retired in 1970. Brunn’s oral history focuses mainly on his time at Brunn and Company. He discusses the history of the company and his father, Hermann A. Brunn’s, career. He talks in depth about some of the specific designs the company created including cars for the rich and famous, as well as specific car dealers in the New York area. He discusses the long association with Brunn and Edsel B. Ford designing for the Lincoln Car Company. In the later part of the oral history, Brunn discusses his own career at Ford working on interiors up to his retirement. He also talks about his work after retirement, working with Brunn restorers and collectors and judging at the Concours d’Elegance.
