Bob Andrews started his career during WWII at the engineering firm Monroe Auto Equipment. After the war, he went to work at Hudson Motor Car Company in their design department and moved on to Willys-Overland in the late 1940s. In 1949, he joined Raymond Lowey designing for Studebaker where he stayed into the 1970s. Later in his career he worked as an independent designer. Andrews’ oral history covers his time at Monroe and his early career. He discusses his work at Hudson contributing to the post war Step-Down Hudson. The oral history also covers his short time at Willys-Overland working on the Jeepster. He goes on to discuss his time with Raymond Lowey working on the Studebaker Starlight Coupe, 1956 Cornell Safety Car, an Airforce One design for the Kennedy administration, and his work as chief designer for the 1962 Avanti. He speaks briefly about some non-automotive project he worked on after being transferred to Lowey’s New York Office in the mid-1950s.
