This collection consists of surveys created by the American Association of Community Colleges and completed by Oakland Community College’s Office of Institutional Research. The surveys collect data including: institutional characteristics, enrollment, ethnicity, number of degrees and certificates awarded, faculty, tuition, fees, and operating budgets. This information is added to their database and then presented by the AACC and their research department. Founded in 1920, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) was created to act as a forum for the nation’s two-year colleges. In 1972, the name of the organization was changed to the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges; and in 1992 the association’s name was changed back to AACC. The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for community colleges at the national level and works closely with directors of state offices to inform and affect state policy. The association is open to 2-year, associate degree-granting colleges accredited by one of the six regional accrediting agencies.
