Tucker Madawick started his career at Ford Motor Company under Bob Gregorie in 1938. He worked for Ford through WWII and then in 1946 got a job with J. Gordon Lippincott doing industrial design work including working as a design consultant for the 1948 Tucker. In 1947, he joined Raymond Loewy, working on the Studebaker account and heading their London offices for a time, as well as working on general design projects for the firm. In his brief oral history, Madawick describes his early interest in design which led him to study at the Pratt Institute during the mid-1930s. He goes on to talk about his time at Ford Motor Company, describing the design department, the designers he worked with, and E.T. Gregorie. He discusses how he enjoyed his time at Ford during the late 1930s and early 1940s as the environment was laid back and they were working on so many new designs. He goes on to discuss his work during the war, working on wiring diagrams, at Willow Run as an inspector, and eventually working outside of Ford on aircraft production. After the war, he discusses joining J. Gordon Lippincott in New York City in 1946 and goes into detail on his work on the Tucker account, working with Alex Tremulis, and the final design components of the Tucker. He wraps up discussing his time at Raymond Loewy, describing working with Bob Bourke at Studebaker, as well as what it was like working for Raymond Loewy in New York, London, and Chicago.
